Nigeria Super Falcons have lost their second match of the 2024 Olympic games against Spain on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Super Falcons fell to a 1-0 defeat to World Champions, Spain courtesy of a second half goal by Alexia Putellas at Stade La de Beaujouire Lois Fonteneau.
A goalless first half saw the Super Falcons hold their lines, limiting the Spaniards with a chance for captain Rasheedat Ajibade to put give the lead on 40 minutes.
Spain came close to finding the opener just before half time, but Chiamaka Nnadozie made a stellar save to keep Nigeria in the tie.
In he second half, the Europeans thought they were in front after Salma Paralluelo got the ball in the net for Spain, but after a VAR intervention it was chalked off for an offside.
On 68 minute, Ajibade got another glaring chance to put Nigeria in the lead, but she couldn't keep her effort low to hit the target.
Spain continued to look more dangerous, by Chiamaka's heroics kept the score the same until after 87 minute.
Spain took the lead from a freekick Alexia Putellas as goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was caught off her lines. A goal that was enough for the World champions to record their second win after 2-1 win against Japan.
