Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi made his Hamburg debut on Saturday as the newly promoted Bundesliga side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
Moffi, who recently joined Hamburg from French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, was handed the number nine shirt and began the match on the bench before replacing Patson Daka in the 67th minute.
The Nigerian forward struggled to make an impact against a disciplined Dortmund defence and was unable to register an effort on goal as the hosts controlled the encounter.
Dortmund made a fast start at Signal Iduna Park, with Serhou Guirassy opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Konstantelias then doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time to give the hosts a comfortable lead at the break.
Hamburg were unable to find a way back into the contest after the restart, with Moffi and his teammates failing to breach Dortmund’s defensive organisation.
The appearance marked the beginning of a new chapter for the powerful Nigerian striker, who has previously played for clubs in six different countries and accumulated considerable experience across European leagues.
Moffi has recorded 88 goals and 13 assists in 228 competitive club appearances throughout his career and will now look to build his fitness and form as he settles into life at Hamburg.
