Warri Wolves vice-captain David Joseph says his side can build on their first win of the season by claiming another positive result against Niger Tornadoes in Wednesday’s EUROMATCH–NPFL 2026/2027 Matchday 5 fixture.
The Seasiders face Tornadoes at the Bako Kotangora Stadium in Minna after beating Kwara United 1-0 on Sunday 20 September at the Southern Delta University Stadium Ozoro.
Warri Wolves are 17th in the league table with three points and have a game in hand.
Joseph, a 31-year-old defensive midfielder, spoke after the team’s training session in Minna on Tuesday night. He pointed to Plateau United’s recent result at the same ground as evidence that Warri Wolves can challenge the home side.
Plateau United drew 1-1 with Niger Tornadoes in Minna, while Warri Wolves also avoided defeat on their previous visit, securing a 0-0 draw on 1 March 2026.
The result against Kwara United ended a difficult start for Warri Wolves, who had lost their first two away matches of the campaign.
“Yeah, the victory (against Kwara United) was very, very important to us because we had lost our first two away games of the season,” Joseph said.
“Being our first home match of the season, we needed to give the fans what they crave for and something to look ahead to for the season.
“So, the three points was a big and welcome boost for us. Coming to Niger Tornadoes, we’re determined to get something out of the game.”
Joseph acknowledged that Niger Tornadoes would benefit from playing in front of their home supporters, but believes Warri Wolves can overcome that advantage if they remain organised.
“The last time Plateau United came here, they were able to secure a point after a 1-1 draw,” he said. “So, it shows that if we get our acts together, we can even go a step above that feat by possibly taking all three points.
“We’ve got to be determined, keep our focus, play as a team and take our chances, which is very important because the chances will come.”
The experienced midfielder also called on his younger team-mates to remain disciplined and follow the team’s tactical plan during the match.
“Let’s fight together, maintain discipline and the tactics, and see what comes out at the end of the day,” Joseph said.
He assured Warri Wolves supporters that the players would approach the contest with a positive attitude and commit themselves fully.
“One thing is guaranteed, and that’s the fact that we’ll give our all in the game. We’re going to give our best; that one is assured. And at the end of the match, we’ll see what our hard work and our discipline will do for us.”
