Vinicius Junior has responded to Real Madrid’s first defeat of the La Liga campaign by sharing a brief message of unity on social media.
The Real Madrid winger posted a team photograph after the match and accompanied it with a single-word caption: “Together!”
The 26-year-old Brazil international’s message came after Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 by Real Betis in Seville on 4 September, in the fourth round of matches in this season’s La Liga.
The result was Real Madrid’s first loss in the competition after the side had opened the campaign with three consecutive victories.
Troy Parrott scored the only goal of the game, finding the net in the 81st minute to give Real Betis victory.
Vinicius Junior did not add a lengthy explanation or comment to his post. Instead, the photograph of Real Madrid’s squad and the short caption appeared to underline a collective response following the disappointing result.
The defeat ended Real Madrid’s perfect start to the league season. Before the trip to Seville, Jose Mourinho’s team had won each of its first three La Liga fixtures.
Real Betis held out after Parrott’s late goal to secure all three points, leaving Real Madrid to reflect on their first setback of the current championship.
The social-media post from Vinicius Junior was therefore focused on togetherness rather than individual reaction. His one-word message was published shortly after the final whistle and alongside an image of the full Real Madrid team.
The match formed part of the fourth round of La Liga fixtures, with the contest taking place in Seville. Real Betis’ 1-0 success was decided by Parrott’s strike nine minutes before the end of normal time.
For Real Madrid, the result represents a change in momentum after three straight wins at the beginning of the campaign. For Vinicius Junior, the immediate response was to emphasise the team’s unity as the season continues.
The Brazilian winger’s post was short, but it followed the first defeat suffered by Jose Mourinho’s side in this season’s Spanish league. Real Madrid will now have to respond after allowing their unbeaten start to end in Seville.
