Villarreal are considering Inigo Perez’s position and could make a decision during the November international break after their 6-0 home defeat by defending European champions Paris St-Germain.
The club’s owner, Fernando Roig, is reviewing the 38-year-old’s future only months into a three-year contract. Perez’s next opportunity to ease the pressure will come at home to Getafe this weekend, although Villarreal are taking time to assess their next move.
Perez joined Villarreal from Rayo Vallecano in the summer after Marcelino decided against extending his contract at the end of last season. That decision prompted a change in the Castellon club’s management, with Perez accepting the opportunity to lead Villarreal in the Champions League.
He had built a strong reputation at Rayo Vallecano, guiding them to the UEFA Conference League final in May. However, his results at Villarreal have so far fallen short of expectations.
The club have won only three of their 11 LaLiga matches under Perez, while they have recorded one victory in four European games. The latest result was their heaviest setback of the campaign, as PSG inflicted a six-goal defeat at Estadio de la Ceramica.
