Yanis Sofikitis has taken a significant step in his developing career by signing his first professional contract with Udinese.
The 19-year-old defender, who was born in 2007 and represents the international U20 side, was confirmed as a professional player by Wilders Sport, the agency representing him, on its Instagram account.
Sofikitis’s agreement rewards his progress and gives him the opportunity to continue developing within Udinese’s professional structure. However, he is not expected to move straight into the Italian club’s first-team squad.
Instead, the young defender should initially join Udinese’s reserve team, where he will be able to gain regular playing time, build experience and gradually adapt to the demands of professional football in Italy.
His next steps will depend on his performances. A strong run with the reserve side could eventually lead to involvement with Udinese’s senior group, giving Sofikitis a route towards the highest level.
The contract provides the U20 international with a fresh opportunity to show his ability and continue closing the gap to first-team football.
Udinese will soon play their fifth match of the Italian championship against Cagliari.
