Sunderland have strengthened their attacking options by signing 18-year-old Ecuadorian forward Juan Angulo from Independiente del Valle.
The Premier League club confirmed the transfer through their official media channels, announcing that Angulo had agreed a long-term employment contract. The full terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
According to Transfermarkt, Sunderland paid €5.85m for the teenager. Angulo has also signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2031, underlining Sunderland’s long-term plans for the young forward.
Angulo arrives in England after making an impact in the current Ecuadorian championship. He has played 15 league matches this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists.
His record means he has contributed to nine goals in 15 appearances, although the club announcement did not specify the role he will take immediately within Sunderland’s first-team squad. The move brings one of Ecuador’s young attacking players to the Premier League after his development at Independiente del Valle.
Sunderland have taken three points from their opening two Premier League matches of the season and currently sit 11th in the table. Angulo’s arrival gives the club another attacking option as they continue their campaign.
