South Africa secured a 1-0 victory over Egypt in a competitive friendly at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October 2026.
The Bafana Bafana settled the match with the only goal of the game in the second half, after both sides had gone into the interval level at 0-0.
Egypt tried to create openings after the restart, but South Africa struck on the counter-attack in the 51st minute. Puso Dithejane finished the move with his right foot to give the visitors the lead.
Egypt responded by increasing the pressure as they searched for an equaliser. Omar Marmoush, Ibrahim Adel and their team-mates looked for a way through, but South Africa’s defence held firm.
The hosts continued to press during the closing stages and came close to levelling in the ninth minute of added time, when Ibrahim Adel’s effort struck the crossbar.
Despite Egypt’s sustained attacking pressure in stoppage time, South Africa protected their advantage until the final whistle.
The victory leaves the Bafana Bafana with a 1-0 win in Cairo, secured by Dithejane’s second-half goal.
