Sevilla returned to winning ways in La Liga as Juan Iglesias’ late header secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Valencia at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Friday.
The decisive moment came in the 81st minute, when Giorgi Kochorashvili delivered a free-kick from a wide position. Iglesias escaped his marker and sent a powerful header beyond Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.
The result lifts Sevilla to 10 points from their opening five games. They have now recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat, and currently sit third in the league table.
Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke played a part in the victory, coming on in the 63rd minute to make his fifth league appearance of the season.
Sevilla had gone into the match after losing one and drawing one of their previous two games. Their response against Valencia was secured by a single goal in a closely contested encounter.
Valencia, who were without the injured Umar Sadiq, remain affected by their difficult start to the campaign and will hope to recover from the defeat.
