Russia overwhelm Namibia 6-0 in international friendly

Namibia suffered a historic 6-0 defeat by Russia in an international friendly at Ekaterinburg Arena, with the Brave Warriors unable to cope with their opponents’ attacking pressure.

Collin Benjamin’s side stayed in the contest during the first half, trailing by only one goal at the interval. Russia took the lead through Lechii Sadulaev, but Namibia were unable to build on a disciplined opening 45 minutes.

The match changed decisively after the break as Russia increased the tempo. Ilya Prutsev and Artyom Tyukavin scored in quick succession to expose the weaknesses in Namibia’s defence and give the hosts a commanding advantage.

Namibia, led by Peter Shalulile, struggled to create any meaningful response as Russia continued to control the game. The Brave Warriors were unable to produce a goal or sustain pressure on their opponents as the deficit widened.

Russia added two further goals late in the match, with Vladislav Glushenkov and Anton Petrov both converting penalties. Namibia’s difficult evening was completed in added time when goalkeeper Kamaijanda Ndisiro scored an own goal.

The result highlights the tactical work facing Benjamin and his coaching staff ahead of Namibia’s next competitive fixtures. Russia, meanwhile, take confidence from the victory before their next match against another African nation, Nigeria.
