Real Madrid have opened disciplinary proceedings against defender Raul Asencio after he was stopped for a check in the Canary Islands and found to have exceeded the legal alcohol limit, according to COPE.
Asencio was stopped on 16 August. A breathalyser test showed that the level of alcohol in his system was above the permitted threshold.
The case was subsequently heard in court, which fined the player €14,400 and banned him from driving for eight months.
Real Madrid will now examine the circumstances surrounding the incident before deciding whether to impose an additional punishment under the club’s internal regulations. The size of any potential fine from the club has not been disclosed.
