Petit Backs Osimhen to End Chelsea’s Striker Struggles

Former Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Victor Osimhen has the mentality and presence to solve Chelsea’s long-standing problems in the number nine position, Nigeriasoccernet.com understands.

Chelsea have struggled to find a consistent centre-forward since the departure of club legend Didier Drogba, with several high-profile signings failing to establish themselves as reliable options in attack.

Osimhen, currently at Galatasaray S.K. after his spell with SSC Napoli, has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea among the clubs monitoring his situation.

Petit admitted he expected the Nigerian striker to head to England after leaving Napoli and was surprised by his move to Turkey.

“Victor Osimhen is doing well with Galatasaray but when he left Napoli, I was hoping that he was going to come to the Premier League, I have no idea why he chose Galatasaray,” Petit said via Goal.

The former France international pointed to what he described as a “curse” surrounding Chelsea’s number nine role but insisted Osimhen could be the player to change that narrative.

“Since Drogba, I think there’s been a curse around the number nine at Chelsea. I think it’s different with Osimhen because this guy has a really big personality and character, he could be the man to break that curse.”

Petit also highlighted Osimhen’s aggressive playing style and mental strength, noting his ability to trouble defenders and cope with pressure at the highest level.

“The way he plays on the pitch is a pain for defenders. This guy is very aggressive. He has something to prove,” he added.

With speculation over a Premier League switch continuing, Osimhen’s profile remains of strong interest to Chelsea as they search for a long-term solution to their attacking issues.
