Ernest Nuamah strengthened the impression that he is returning to his best form by scoring twice in Olympique Lyonnais’ victory over Rennes on Saturday.
The Ghana forward started the match and played a key role in Lyon’s success before being substituted in the 72nd minute to a warm reception from the home supporters. His performance marked another significant step in his comeback from a serious injury.
Nuamah spent more than a year away from competitive football before returning to action towards the end of last season. He then represented Ghana at the World Cup before beginning the new campaign with Lyon.
The 22-year-old had already scored in Ligue 1 against Auxerre and in the Champions League qualifying rounds against Sparta Prague. His goals against Rennes take his tally to four in eight appearances this season, while he has also provided one assist.
“Ma blessure m’a eloigne des terrains pendant longtemps, mais je suis de retour,” Nuamah said after the match.
His manager was equally encouraged by the forward’s contribution, having previously challenged him to make a greater impact in the decisive moments.
“On a parle d’etre decisif, il l’a ete aujourd’hui. Il progresse et il a fait un grand match,” the Lyon manager said.
Nuamah’s latest display offers further encouragement for Olympique Lyonnais as he gradually rediscovers his confidence and sharpness. The Ghanaian is once again becoming an important part of the club’s attacking options.
