Lamine Yamal says he deserves to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, but Real head coach Jose Mourinho has declined to offer a detailed response to the Barcelona winger’s statement.
Mourinho was asked about Yamal’s claim during his press conference on Monday.
“Lamine said he deserves the Ballon d’Or...”
“I cannot comment on every statement that is made. I respect the player’s words,” Mourinho replied.
Yamal finished second in last year’s Ballon d’Or voting, with Ousmane Dembele taking the award.
This year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held in London on 26 October.
Real are due to play away against Elche in La Liga on Tuesday.
