Jose Mourinho has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold after the defender produced an impressive performance in Real Madrid’s 3-0 LaLiga victory at Racing Santander.
Alexander-Arnold was handed a starting place at right-back after an injury to club captain Fede Valverde forced Mourinho to change his plans in Cantabria.
The decision marked a shift from Mourinho’s previous indication that he preferred Valverde to Alexander-Arnold as his long-term choice in the position. The former Liverpool player responded by delivering a standout display as Real Madrid returned to action.
“Trent was really good today. He hasn't played in a while and he comes out and drops a masterclass,” Mourinho said.
“That’s what happens when a team is confident and trusts each other.”
Mourinho added that Alexander-Arnold’s technical ability made him the right option for the match, while stressing that his selection could depend on the opposition and circumstances.
“I thought Trent, with his technical skills, was the best option for this game, but that could change in other matches,” he said.
Real Madrid’s next fixture is away to AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League on November 4th.
They then travel to Valencia for their next LaLiga match four days later.
