Morocco have moved up to fifth in the FIFA world rankings after Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Australia on Friday.
The result allowed the Atlas Lions to overtake Brazil and Portugal and secure a place among the world’s top five nations. The rise marks another significant step for Morocco’s national team and reflects the country’s strong progress on the international stage in recent years.
Morocco have also matched the highest position ever achieved by an African national side in the FIFA rankings. They join Nigeria, who reached fifth in the world in 1994.
The latest ranking further underlines the development of Moroccan football under manager Mohamed Ouahbi, with the team continuing to establish itself among the leading sides in international football.
Morocco will soon begin their qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a first-round match against Gabon.
