Mouloudia Club d'Alger travel to Niamey to face ASN Nigelec in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, with a place in the second round at stake.
The Algerian club have established themselves as regular participants in Africa's leading club competition and will start this season's campaign against a team with a more modest profile on the continent.
The match will be played at the Stade Syni Kountche in Niamey, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 GMT.
Mouloudia Club d'Alger have reached at least the group stage in each of the past two seasons. Their most successful of those campaigns came in 2024-25, when they progressed to the quarter-finals.
Last season, however, they were drawn into a difficult group that included Mamelodi Sundowns, who went on to win the competition.
That recent experience gives the Algerian side a strong foundation as they begin another attempt to make progress in the CAF Champions League. Their immediate task is to negotiate a tie against ASN Nigelec, who are seeking to make a stronger impression in continental competition.
The Nigerien club have achieved notable results domestically, but have yet to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League. Their closest attempt came during the 2022-23 season.
ASN Nigelec advanced beyond the first round that year before their run ended in the second round against Wydad Casablanca. The Moroccan club entered that tie as the reigning champions.
ASN Nigelec are therefore still waiting for a breakthrough campaign at continental level, despite their achievements within Niger. A victory over Mouloudia Club d'Alger would represent a significant step towards that objective, while the visitors will be expected to draw on their greater recent experience in the competition.
The first-round tie offers the two clubs contrasting ambitions. ASN Nigelec are aiming to reach the group stage for the first time, having previously fallen just short, while Mouloudia Club d'Alger are attempting to continue a run of regular involvement in the latter stages of African club football.
