Mali came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Morocco in an international friendly at the Grand Stade de Tanger on Sunday, 4 October.
Morocco took the lead in the 33rd minute after Cheick Keita fouled Abdessamad Ezzalzouli inside the penalty area. The Morocco winger took responsibility from the spot and sent Mamadou Samassa the wrong way to put the Lions de l’Atlas ahead.
The hosts controlled much of an evenly contested first half, although both sides created opportunities before the break. Neither team was able to add to the score before the interval.
Several substitutions were made after half-time as the two teams continued to compete closely. Mali grew into the match and posed a greater threat during the final quarter.
Their pressure was rewarded in the 77th minute when Gaoussou Diarra finished with his left foot. The equaliser followed a set-piece move, with Amadou Dante delivering the cross that allowed Mali to restore parity.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages. Mali sought to complete the comeback, while Morocco tried to regain the lead, but neither side found a decisive second goal.
The match ended 1-1, with Mali securing a draw after Morocco had led at half-time.
