Lamine Yamal has won the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive year after Milan midfielder Luka Modric took part in the voting.

Modric, 41, was eligible to vote as the holder of the Ballon d’Or. He ranked Barcelona forward Yamal first, placed Juventus midfielder Kerim Alajbegovic second and put Paris St-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery third.

The Kopa Trophy is awarded annually to the best footballer aged under 21.

Yamal celebrated his 19th birthday in July, shortly before the victorious World Cup final.
