La Liga president Javier Tebas has apologised to fans in China after Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe referred to Mao Zedong as a “Chinese dictator” in a joke.
La Liga said Mbappe’s comments did not represent the league’s position and issued an apology on its behalf. Tebas also apologised following the remarks.
Reports had previously suggested that La Liga matches would not be shown in China because of Mbappe’s comments.
