Kyle Walker has questioned whether Trent Alexander-Arnold could return to Liverpool in 2027 after leaving the club for Real Madrid.
Walker and Alexander-Arnold competed for England’s right-back position for several years before Walker retired from international football. Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has struggled to establish himself since moving to Real Madrid in 2025.
The Liverpool-born defender had initially appeared set to join the Spanish club on a free transfer before the 2025/26 season. However, Real Madrid wanted him available for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and Liverpool eventually agreed to his departure for a £10M fee.
Alexander-Arnold has since been affected by injuries during the management spells of Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa. His involvement has been reduced further this season, with Jose Mourinho favouring Denzel Dumfries and captain Fede Valverde at right-back.
That situation has revived speculation that Alexander-Arnold could return to England. Alonso is open to the prospect of being reunited with him at Chelsea, but Walker believes a move back to Liverpool would be difficult for the 28-year-old.
“Can he go back to Liverpool with the way that he left? I'm not too sure,” Walker said.
“Do I see him at another club? He's got to go to one of the big ones: Manchester United, Man City.”
