Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Lagos in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 meeting at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Saturday.

The result kept Kano Pillars, also known as the Sai Masu Gida, unbeaten at the start of the new league season. Sporting Lagos, meanwhile, have now gone three matches without a win.

Sporting Lagos took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Valentine Ugwu found the net, silencing the home supporters and giving the visitors a narrow advantage at the break.

Kano Pillars responded immediately after half-time, with Abdullahi Musa equalising in the 48th minute to bring the hosts back into the contest.

Both teams then had clear opportunities to claim all three points, but neither side was able to produce the decisive finish. The points were consequently shared in Kano.

The draw moved Kano Pillars into fifth place in the league table, while Sporting Lagos climbed to eighth despite extending their winless sequence.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s side will next travel to Ibadan to play Shooting Stars. Sporting Lagos are scheduled to return home for their next league fixture, when they will host Bendel Insurance.
