Inter came from behind to beat Bologna 3-1 at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara and move outright top of Serie A, recording only their second victory in their past six away league meetings with Bologna.
Bologna, buoyed by their first win of the season in their previous match, made a fast start and took the lead after just 10 minutes.
Juan Miranda dispossessed Luis Henrique inside the Inter half, allowing Tommaso Pobega to drive into the penalty area. The midfielder then struck a left-footed finish beyond Josep Martinez at the near post.
Martinez had to make another important intervention soon afterwards, keeping out a fierce effort from Federico Bernardeschi following a short free-kick.
Inter struggled to find their rhythm as Bologna continued to threaten. Pobega sent a long-range attempt narrowly wide before going even closer with another effort that struck the crossbar.
The hosts were punished for failing to extend their advantage when Inter levelled in the 44th minute, against the run of play. Marcus Thuram rose highest to head in Nicolo Barella’s precise cross.
The equaliser was Thuram’s fourth goal in his past five Serie A appearances and gave Inter renewed momentum. Cristian Chivu’s team began the second half with greater intensity, although the Inter manager made a double substitution with just over 20 minutes remaining, bringing on Andy Diouf and Carlos Augusto.
The changes had an immediate effect. Within a minute, Diouf found Piotr Zielinski, who delivered a low ball across the face of goal for Augusto to convert from close range. It was the Brazilian’s second Serie A goal of the season.
Ange-Yoan Bonny then completed the comeback, meeting Augusto’s cut-back first time to put Inter 3-1 ahead.
Bonny had briefly thought he had scored earlier, but his near-post effort was ruled out for offside. He made no mistake with his second opportunity to secure the points for Inter.
The result leaves Inter three points clear at the top of Serie A, although their advantage will last only for a few hours. Bologna remain one point above the relegation zone.
Carlos Augusto was named Flashscore Man of the Match.
