Inter captain Lautaro Martinez faces month-long absence with hamstring injury

Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is expected to miss around a month after sustaining a left hamstring strain, the Serie A champions have confirmed.

The 29-year-old underwent clinical and diagnostic tests which revealed the injury, although Inter have not given a precise timescale for his return.

Italian media reports say the Argentina forward could be out until the next international break. That would rule him out of several matches, including the Milan derby against AC Milan on 31 October.

Martinez was injured after scoring twice in Inter’s 4-3 defeat by Club Brugge in the second round of the Champions League league phase on Tuesday.

The striker has made a strong start to the Serie A season, scoring four goals for Inter, who lead the table on goal difference from second-placed Lazio.
