Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has warned his players that any loss of concentration could quickly undermine their impressive start to the season.
The Spanish champions have won all five of their matches in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and conceding only three. They travel to face Levante in LaLiga on Sunday aiming to maintain that record.
“We know in football things can change very fast. I like that we are enjoying the situation right now,” Flick told reporters.
“If we change something from this attitude we'll go in the wrong direction and this is what we don't want.”
Barcelona’s attacking players, including Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, have been central to their strong opening. The side scored five goals against Feyenoord in the Champions League, while they have also produced five-goal performances against Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Elche in LaLiga.
Flick said the challenge was to reproduce that level of performance in every match rather than become complacent after a series of convincing results.
“We're very happy we are playing on this level but we know that we have to show it in every game,” he said.
“We know we have huge quality but... we also have things we're doing that are important for us, when we keep the intensity high, we are focused and we are active.”
Barcelona’s principal ambition this season is to win the Champions League, a competition they last lifted in 2015. However, Flick said club president Joan Laporta had also made clear that retaining their domestic crown was a major priority.
The Catalan club are pursuing a third consecutive LaLiga title, alongside their European objective.
“I spoke with the fans, with the people in Barcelona, this year we have to win the Champions League and of course this is a dream for us, this is our objective to win this,” Flick added.
“The president also said that LaLiga is also important, and to win LaLiga three times in a row, it would be amazing.”
Flick’s comments came before Barcelona’s visit to Levante, with the team’s unbeaten start built on a combination of attacking efficiency and defensive solidity. He said maintaining the attitude and intensity shown in their opening five matches would be essential if they were to continue competing for both major honours.
