Getafe fight back to beat 10-man Sevilla and end three-year home wait

Getafe scored three times after the break to beat Sevilla 3-1 and claim their first home victory over the Andalusian side in three years.

The result ended Sevilla’s unbeaten start to the season against a team outside LaLiga’s top three and lifted Getafe to 12th in the table. It also extended their run to six league matches without defeat at home.

Getafe had begun the day in the relegation zone after scoring just five goals and receiving five red cards in their opening 10 matches. Their problems in front of goal were evident early on at a sunny Coliseum, when Sebastian Boselli failed to direct a free header on target.

Sevilla, however, made no such mistake with their first clear opportunity. Kike Salas escaped his marker and met Felix Correia’s precise corner with a powerful header to give the visitors the lead. It was Salas’ first goal since finding the net against Villarreal in May.

Sevilla controlled much of the opening half, but Getafe goalkeeper David Soria kept his side within reach of an equaliser just before the interval. He dived to turn away Gabriel Suazo’s fiercely struck free-kick in stoppage time.

The visitors were less convincing after the restart, allowing Getafe to gain confidence and put them under sustained pressure. Odysseas Vlachodimos was forced to intervene when he tipped Andres Garcia’s rising effort over the crossbar.

Getafe’s pressure finally told with more than 20 minutes remaining. Martin Satriano carried the ball towards the byline before sending a low delivery across the face of goal, where Enes Unal arrived to score his first league goal since August.

The two attackers then switched roles less than 10 minutes later. Unal found Satriano, who finished with a neat flick. The goal was initially disallowed for a foul during the build-up, but it was awarded after a review.

Sevilla were angered by the decision and their difficult second half worsened soon afterwards when Manuel Bueno was shown a red card for a last-man foul.

Getafe took full advantage of the numerical advantage. Andres Garcia laid the ball off for Orel Mangala, who struck an unstoppable third to complete the turnaround and secure a much-needed victory for Luis Garcia Plaza’s side.

Sevilla have now won only four of their past 21 LaLiga away matches. The defeat also means they missed the chance to apply pressure to Real Sociedad, who remain one place above them in fifth.

Sebastian Boselli was named Flashscore’s Man of the Match for Getafe.
