Kingsley Ehizibue has expressed his delight after Udinese edged AS Roma 1–0 in a pulsating Serie A encounter at the Bluenergy Stadium on Monday night, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Jürgen Ekkelenkamp proved the hero on the night, firing home the decisive goal from a deflected free kick just four minutes after the restart to hand the Zebras a valuable victory over Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. The result lifted Udinese to 32 points, leaving them level with Lazio in eighth place on the Serie A standings.
Ehizibue, who returned to the starting lineup, admitted he was pleased to play his part in an important win for the club.
“I’m very happy with this victory; it’s a great night for us and our fans. We’ve shown we can beat any team when we play like this,” the Nigeria international told Udinese’s official website.
The versatile defender also reflected on his personal journey, acknowledging recent criticism while dedicating a message of support to teammate Zanoli.
“Today I returned to the starting lineup; I’m happy for this opportunity, but my thoughts are with Zanoli, who will come back stronger than ever. I’ve received a lot of criticism, but that’s part of football; I have to respond on the pitch.”
Udinese will now look to build on the morale-boosting victory as they continue their push for a strong finish to the Serie A season.
