Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Edo Queens will battle hosts USFA of Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers on Wednesday, September 2, with a place in the final at stake, NigeriaSoccernet.com reports.
Edo Queens booked their place in the last four after an impressive group-stage campaign in Ouagadougou, recording wins over AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic and Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in their final Group B fixture.
Despite the defeat, the Nigerian champions finished second in Group B and head into the semi-final with the competition’s best attacking record, having scored 11 goals in three matches.
USFA, however, have been equally impressive and enter the contest with a completely different strength.
The Burkinabe champions finished the group stage unbeaten and without conceding a single goal. They opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory over FC Dynamique before recording a convincing 5-0 win over ASKO de Kara to finish top of Group A.
The encounter therefore sets up an intriguing contest between Edo Queens’ attacking firepower and USFA’s impressive defensive organisation.
Edo Queens will look to leading scorers Esther Moses and Doosuur Anastasia for inspiration. Moses scored a hat-trick in the 7-0 demolition of AS Garde Nationale, while Doosuur has also found the net three times in the competition.
Teenager Oluwakemi Adegbuyi has also emerged as one of the standout players for the Nigerian champions after scoring and providing an assist in their 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas.
USFA, meanwhile, will take confidence from their defensive record and the backing of their home supporters. The hosts have scored eight goals in two matches without conceding, highlighting the difficult task awaiting Edo Queens.
For interim coach Kennedy Boboye, the defeat to Ampem Darkoa offers his players an opportunity to respond when it matters most.
Edo Queens had taken the lead against the Ghanaian champions through Doosuur before Ampem Darkoa fought back in the second half to secure a 2-1 victory and finish top of Group B.
The Nigerian champions must now rediscover the attacking efficiency that produced 10 goals in their opening two matches while finding a way past a USFA defence that has yet to be breached.
The winner will advance to the WAFU-B final and move closer to securing the zone’s ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
CAF has confirmed that the winners of the six zonal qualifying competitions will join defending champions AS FAR and the host representative at the continental final tournament. The other semi-final will see unbeaten Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies face FC Dynamique of Benin.
