Nigeria international Rafiu Durosinmi continued his impressive start to life at KRC Genk after scoring in their emphatic 4-0 victory over Beveren on Friday, with the striker now finding the net in each of his first four league appearances, reports NigeriaSoccernet.com.
Durosinmi opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just nine minutes, taking his tally to four goals since joining the Belgian club.
The 23-year-old credited his teammates for helping him settle quickly and make an immediate impact at his new club.
“I feel very good, and above all I am very happy. This is a good start,” Durosinmi told hbvl. “The team helped me score. We have a lot of quality in the team, and if you have a good group it becomes easier to play.”
Genk signed the Nigerian forward from Italian side Pisa during the summer after the club struggled to replace Hyun-Gyu Oh, who departed for Besiktas in February.
Durosinmi endured a difficult spell at Pisa, scoring just once in 12 appearances, but had previously demonstrated his goalscoring ability at Viktoria Plze?, where he registered 13 goals in 30 games.
His explosive start in Belgium has already sparked comparisons with fellow Nigerians Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare, both of whom enjoyed prolific spells with Genk.
Onuachu remains the club’s record goalscorer in a single Belgian league season, scoring 33 goals in 38 matches. The towering striker finished his Genk career with 85 goals in 134 appearances before moving to Southampton.
Arokodare, meanwhile, scored 41 goals in 113 appearances for Genk before earning a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Durosinmi will now hope to maintain his remarkable scoring form and follow in the footsteps of his Nigerian predecessors at Genk.
