Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to miss almost two months after undergoing surgery on his right knee, Deportivo La Coruna have announced.
The 37-year-old striker had an operation on his meniscus at a clinic in Madrid on Thursday. He experienced discomfort during Deportivo’s draw with Real Betis on Sunday.
Deportivo said Aubameyang, Gabon’s all-time top scorer, would return to La Coruna following the procedure.
“His progress will determine when he returns to training,” the club said in a statement.
Spanish media reports said the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward was likely to be sidelined for nearly two months, although the timing of his return will depend on his recovery.
Aubameyang has been central to Deportivo’s impressive start after their promotion. He has scored five of the club’s 10 league goals, helping them reach seventh place in La Liga with 10 points from seven matches.
The injury comes after Aubameyang ended his international involvement earlier this month. He said he felt “humiliated” after the Gabonese government singled him out as responsible for the country’s disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
