Super Eagles forward Cyril Dessers has revealed he may consider leaving Scottish giants Rangers, despite being the club’s leading scorer across all competitions since last season, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.
The 30-year-old striker has faced mounting criticism from fans and has seen his position in the team’s pecking order diminish, prompting him to reassess his future.
Speaking in an interview with VI, Dessers admitted uncertainty about his future at the club.
“I’m unsure about my future. I imagine Rangers might want to sell me now, but January is a challenging transfer window. Clubs that are performing well typically already have a striker in form, and those needing goals might not immediately have the funds available. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Dessers emphasized his need for regular playing time, which he values at this stage of his career.
“I’m at a great club, but I want to play every week, preferably at Rangers. If there are differing views about that internally, then we need to have a conversation,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Dessers has been productive this season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions. However, fan criticism and reduced opportunities on the pitch have created an atmosphere of uncertainty for the Nigerian international.
The January transfer window presents both opportunities and challenges for Dessers. While his goal-scoring ability might attract interest from clubs seeking reinforcements, the mid-season market often comes with financial constraints and fewer options for players seeking a new chapter.
As Rangers navigate internal decisions, Dessers’ future could depend on whether the club values his contributions enough to prioritize his role or opts to cash in on him. For Dessers, securing consistent playing time remains the primary focus as he approaches the twilight of his career.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, all eyes will be on Dessers and Rangers as they make decisions that could shape both the player’s future and the club’s attacking options.
