Concacaf Champions Cup: Chidozie Awaziem debuts as Colorado Rapids get one over LAFC

Published on: 20 February 2025

Nigeria international Chidozie Awaziem has made his debut for MLS side Colorado Rapids, marshaling the defense as they picked a first-leg victory against LAFC in the first leg of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup round one, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Djordje Mihailovic's second-half brace was enough for the Burgundy Boys to take the first-leg advantage as the Nigerian defender kept LAFC attack on mute. Colorado Rapids' defensive solidity in their recent match was a clear highlight, largely attributed to the composed performance of their revamped backline.

Notably, new signing Chidozie Awaziem, making his Concacaf Champions Cup debut, demonstrated his experience and ability to integrate seamlessly into the team's structure. Alongside Ian Murphy, Awaziem contributed to a defense that exuded confidence and control.

This match marked a significant milestone for Awaziem, solidifying his arrival on the continental stage. As Colorado Rapids now look ahead, they face a demanding schedule with their MLS season opener against St. Louis CITY SC on February 22nd preceding the crucial Leg 2 of their Concacaf Champions Cup Round One clash against their opponents in Los Angeles on February 25th.

Awaziem's performance provides a promising foundation for the Rapids as they navigate these upcoming challenges.
