Cesc Fabregas’ Como are reportedly prepared to offer Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez a route away from Stamford Bridge after his difficult start to the season.
The 28-year-old’s performance in Chelsea’s 3-2 opening-day victory over Fulham appears to have brought his time with the club to an end. Sanchez was widely criticised after being involved in both of Fulham’s goals, with his errors contributing to a display that further damaged his standing among Chelsea supporters.
For the opening goal, Sanchez was beaten at his near post by Josh King. He was then unable to hold on to the ball for Fulham’s second, instead parrying it directly into the path of Gonzalo Garcia.
Although Sanchez has produced a number of impressive performances during his Chelsea career, a succession of high-profile mistakes has increasingly overshadowed those stronger moments. His latest showing appears to have convinced the club that a change is now required.
Chelsea have since signed Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa and have told Sanchez that he is no longer part of their plans, according to the report.
Fabregas’ Como are now understood to be considering whether to make a move for the Spain international, with the Serie A club potentially offering him the opportunity to rebuild his reputation in Italy. The proposed switch would give Sanchez the chance to continue his career away from the pressure that has followed him at Chelsea.
Como are reviewing their goalkeeping options as Noel Tornqvist approaches a move to Monza. However, the club’s primary recruitment focus remains on signing a new striker.
The Italian side are not the only club believed to be monitoring Sanchez’s situation. Several other teams are also reportedly interested in the Chelsea goalkeeper, meaning he could have a choice of potential destinations if he leaves Stamford Bridge.
Sanchez has certainly enjoyed some notable moments since joining Chelsea, but his position has become increasingly uncertain as mistakes in important situations have affected his relationship with the club’s supporters.
