Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has expressed strong confidence in Frank Onyeka following the Nigerian midfielder’s loan move to Coventry City, describing him as a top professional who is well capable of making a positive impact at his new club, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Onyeka joined the Sky Blues on loan until the end of the season, with the agreement including an obligation to make the transfer permanent if Coventry secure promotion to the Premier League. The move brings an end, at least for now, to Onyeka’s stay at Brentford, where he struggled for consistent game time this season.
Speaking to Brentford’s official website, Andrews praised Onyeka’s attitude and contribution to the club, admitting that the midfielder deserved a fresh opportunity elsewhere. He noted that while Onyeka had been an important part of Brentford’s journey, limited minutes decided to move on to the right one for all parties.
The Brentford boss also backed the Super Eagles midfielder to succeed at Coventry, insisting he has no doubts about Onyeka’s ability to perform at a high level. Andrews described the 28-year-old as both a good professional and a good person, qualities he believes will help him thrive in the Championship.
Onyeka joined Brentford from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2021 and went on to make 87 appearances across all competitions. Notably, he was the club’s first signing of their Premier League era and played a key role in midfield during their early seasons in the top flight, including the campaign that ended with a 13th-place finish.
Now at Coventry City, Onyeka will be hoping to enjoy regular football and play a crucial role as the Sky Blues push for promotion back to the Premier League.
