Brazil coach Rilany expects ‘extremely difficult’ Nigeria semi-final

Brazil head coach Rilany Silva says Nigeria’s Flamingos will provide a formidable test when the two sides meet in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The South American side face Nigeria on Wednesday night, with a place in the final at stake.

Nigeria lost their opening match 2-1 to Poland but have recovered strongly during the tournament. The Flamingos responded with victories against Puerto Rico, DPR Korea, Mexico and Venezuela to reach the last four.

Brazil, meanwhile, are still unbeaten and have impressed with their attacking performances throughout the competition.

Despite that record, Silva believes Nigeria’s physical qualities and endurance could make the semi-final particularly demanding.

“I’m expecting an extremely difficult match. Nigeria are a very physical team. By the 90th minute, they’ll probably still be running as if it were the fifth,” Silva told FIFA.

“We’ll need to be very strategic with our game plan to find ways to hurt Nigeria.”

The match will be played at Mohammed VI Football Complex, Pitch 3, in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 pm Nigerian time.
