Eugen Polanski has become the first managerial casualty of the Bundesliga season after Borussia Monchengladbach were beaten 5-0 by Freiburg.

Jan-Moritz Lichte has been placed in temporary charge of the club. It is his second spell as an interim head coach, having also taken responsibility for Mainz for a period in 2020.

Lichte’s first match will be a derby away to Koln in the Bundesliga’s fifth round on 19 September.

Borussia Monchengladbach are currently second from bottom in the German top-flight table.
