Aston Villa close in on 40-year-old Sergio Ramos - reports

Aston Villa are reportedly close to signing former Spain, Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain defender Sergio Ramos.

The 40-year-old centre-back is nearing a move to the Premier League, according to Suporter Media, with the deal said to be close to completion.

Ramos has been without a club since leaving Mexican side Monterrey at the end of last year. He has not played since his departure.

The defender began his senior career with Sevilla before joining Real Madrid, where he spent many years and won major domestic and European honours. He later played for Paris St-Germain before moving to Monterrey.

A move to Aston Villa would see Ramos return to competitive football after his period away from the game.

Unai Emery’s side have made a poor start to the new Premier League season. After four matches, Aston Villa have collected just one point and currently sit 19th in the table, second from bottom.
