Arsenal have ended their interest in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong after learning that the Catalan club would demand at least €60m for the Netherlands international.
The London club are looking to strengthen their midfield with the possible departure of Martin Zubimendi in mind. De Jong had emerged as a potential target, but Arsenal have now decided against pursuing a deal, according to El Nacional, citing La Gazzetta dello Sport.
De Jong is no longer considered an untouchable player at Barcelona, having fallen down Hansi Flick’s pecking order. The club are prepared to listen to offers for the 29-year-old, with his departure also potentially freeing up a significant amount of room in their wage budget.
However, Barcelona do not intend to sell De Jong for a reduced fee and have placed a valuation of at least €60m on the midfielder. That asking price has led Arsenal to abandon his candidacy.
De Jong’s contract with Barcelona runs until the end of the 2028/2029 season.
