Ghanaian club Ampem Darkoa Ladies have arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the resumption of their CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifying final against Nigeria’s Edo Queens, with 30 minutes of extra time still to be played, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The planned resumption follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Committee after Ampem Darkoa challenged the circumstances surrounding the original conclusion of the final.
Edo Queens had initially emerged victorious in a penalty shootout after the contest ended level, but the Ghanaian side subsequently appealed, arguing that the match should have proceeded to extra time before penalties were taken.
Following its review, the CAF Appeal Committee ordered the remaining 30 minutes of extra time to be played, reopening the contest between the two West African sides.
Ampem Darkoa’s arrival in the Egyptian capital signals their readiness for the rescheduled encounter, which will determine the winner of the regional qualifying competition.
Both teams now face the task of preparing for the decisive period, with Edo Queens seeking to protect their position and Ampem Darkoa hoping to turn the contest in their favour.
The unusual resumption has attracted attention because the outcome will be settled on the pitch after the initial penalty shootout appeared to have decided the final.
