Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies defeated Nigeria’s Edo Queens 2-1 in their final Group B fixture of the WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
The Ghanaian champions secured all three points in a closely contested encounter to finish top of the group, while Edo Queens were forced to surrender their position at the summit after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.
Edo Queens had gone into the decisive fixture as Group B leaders following victories over AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic and ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire.
However, Ampem Darkoa produced a strong performance to claim the win and move ahead of the Nigerian champions in the final standings.
Edo Queens finish second in the group and will now turn their attention to the knockout stage as they continue their quest to secure a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League proper.
Ampem Darkoa, meanwhile, advance as Group B winners with their sights firmly set on winning the WAFU-B qualifiers and securing continental qualification.
