Algeria will face Niger in a friendly on Tuesday, 6 October, as both sides bring the first international break of the 2026/27 season to a close.
The match at Stade Hocine-Ait-Ahmed in Tizi Ouzou will kick off at 17:00 GMT. It will be shown on Canal+ Sport Afrique, beIN Sports, ENTV and TV6.
The fixture gives both managers the chance to assess their squads and test tactical plans, although the two teams arrive with contrasting ambitions and recent records.
Algeria hold commanding head-to-head advantage
Algeria have dominated the history of this fixture. Across around a dozen competitive and friendly meetings, the Fennecs have won 10 times and drawn once.
Niger’s only victory came in May 1981, when they won 1-0.
The most recent meetings have also favoured Algeria. The sides drew 0-0 in the CHAN on 18 August 2025, while Algeria won 1-0 away from home in the CAN qualifiers on 27 March 2023. Three days earlier, Algeria had prevailed 2-1 in the corresponding fixture.
Algeria also recorded a 5-0 victory over Niger in the CHAN on 31 January 2023 and won 2-0 in a friendly on 2 November 2022.
Mixed form for both nations
Ranked 29th in the FIFA rankings, Algeria have produced inconsistent results in recent months.
At the last World Cup, they began with a 2-1 win against Jordan before drawing 3-3 with Austria. Their campaign then ended with a 2-0 defeat by Switzerland.
In the CAN qualifiers, Algeria beat Zambia 3-1 but were held to a 2-2 draw by Burundi. The friendly against Niger offers an opportunity to address defensive weaknesses and build confidence.
Niger are currently around 108th in the world rankings and have struggled particularly in away matches. They lost 2-0 in Gabon after beating Lesotho 2-1 in qualifying.
For the Mena, the game represents a chance to test their defensive resilience against one of Africa’s leading nations.
Algeria start as favourites
The head-to-head record and the overall technical quality of Algeria’s squad make the hosts clear favourites. Although they have several absences in defence and midfield, they retain enough attacking quality to cause Niger problems, particularly against a side that has often found matches against the continent’s stronger teams difficult.
Africafoot’s prediction is a 2-0 victory for Algeria.
The betting odds listed by 1xbet are 1,21 for an Algeria win, 7,50 for a draw and 15,00 for a Niger victory.
