Brahim Hemdani is reportedly considering four new players for Algeria’s November international squad as he continues to reshape the team following his appointment after the 2026 World Cup.
Kelyann Bezahaf, Rayan Akacem, Mohamed Azzi and Boulkaboul are all understood to be under consideration, with the potential selections highlighting a willingness to look beyond Algerian players based abroad and give greater opportunities to talent from the domestic league.
Hemdani made several changes to his first squad in September, a gathering that produced mixed results. According to journalist Khaled Mazouzi, the Algeria manager could continue that process when the squad is announced for the next international break.
Bezahaf has made an impression at Olympique de Marseille after being given an opportunity during a difficult period for the club. A first Algeria call-up would represent a significant step in the young player’s development.
Akacem, who plays for CR Belouizdad, is also reportedly being closely monitored. His possible inclusion would underline the coaching staff’s apparent intention to widen their scouting beyond players competing overseas.
Mohamed Azzi, currently with CSKA Moscow, is another name linked with a place in the squad. Boulkaboul, meanwhile, could provide a further domestic option after attracting attention with his displays for JS Kabylie.
The left-back joined JS Kabylie from WA Mostaganem midway through last season and has impressed in the Algerian top flight. His possible selection would offer encouragement to players in Ligue 1 Mobilis, who often face strong competition from members of the diaspora and expatriate footballers for places in the national team.
Ait-Nouri’s uncertain position
Interest in Boulkaboul comes as Rayan Ait-Nouri’s position with Algeria remains uncertain.
The Manchester City left-back was omitted from the previous squad following a disagreement with Hemdani. He is also facing a difficult situation at club level and has reportedly still not made the apology required before he can return to the national team.
His sporting difficulties in England, combined with the dispute with the Algeria staff, mean a return in November currently appears unlikely. However, Boulkaboul’s emergence would not necessarily represent a permanent exclusion for Ait-Nouri. His future involvement will also depend on how his individual situation develops.
Encouraging but imperfect start
Algeria’s first competitive matches under Hemdani offered grounds for encouragement but were not entirely convincing. The Fennecs began their CAN 2027 qualifying campaign with a 3-1 victory over Zambia before drawing 2-2 with Burundi.
Those results leave Algeria unbeaten with four points from six, although Hemdani still has considerable work to do as he builds his team.
The November gathering could therefore provide another opportunity to assess new profiles, increase competition for places and continue the renewal of the Verts. It remains to be seen how many of the four players linked with the squad will ultimately appear on Hemdani’s list.
