Akwa United assistant coach, Akarandut Orok, has attributed the team’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Enyimba to the players’ determination and resilience, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
The Promise Keepers stunned Stanley Eguma’s side in their Matchday 23 encounter in Aba on Sunday, securing a crucial away win. Orok believes the result will serve as a springboard for more victories in the remaining matches of the season.
“We are really excited to have won this game. It was a tough match as both teams needed the victory, but we wanted it more," Orok told the club’s media. "Our players fought hard and played according to instructions to secure all three points."
He also praised his squad’s overall performance but acknowledged the need for more clinical finishing.
“The boys played very well in all departments and created good scoring chances, but we couldn’t convert some of them. We are happy that the two we converted earned us maximum points. We will continue working on our finishing because, at the end of the day, scoring more goals than your opponent is what wins games.”
The 2021 league champions will now shift focus to their next NPFL fixture against Sunshine Stars in Ikenne this weekend.
