Achraf Hakimi equalled Samuel Eto’o’s record for Champions League appearances by featuring in Paris Saint-Germain’s 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Morocco international captained Luis Enrique’s side as they dominated the Slovakian visitors and opened their European campaign with a convincing win.
Hakimi reached the milestone from the start of the match, making the 78th European appearance of his professional career. The right-back, who was developed by Real Madrid before spells with Dortmund and Inter Milan, has now moved level with former Cameroon international Eto’o.
According to figures provided by Stats Foot, Hakimi is the third African player with the most appearances in the history of the Champions League.
Only two players now stand above him in the continental rankings. Former Cote d’Ivoire striker Didier Drogba is second with 92 matches, while Egypt forward Mohamed Salah leads the list with 98 European appearances.
The achievement adds to Hakimi’s growing importance at Paris Saint-Germain, where he wore the captain’s armband during the emphatic win over Slovan Bratislava.
The Madrid-born defender is currently valued at 80 million euros and remains under contract with the Paris club until 30 June 2029. His annual salary is 14,550,000 euros, equivalent to 9,457,500,000 FCFA in France.
Hakimi joined Paris Saint-Germain after previously playing for Real Madrid, Dortmund and Inter Milan, and has established himself as one of the club’s key players. His latest appearance also strengthened his position among Africa’s most experienced performers in the Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain’s next fixture will be their fourth match of the French league season against Stade Brestois.
