It was not immediately clear when the fifth-round match would resume. Lyon were leading 2-0 when play was stopped, with Ernest Nuamah scoring both goals for the hosts.

Lyon began the game in fifth place with eight points from their opening four matches. However, on points still available, they were level with Paris in second position.

Rennes had collected 10 points and occupied fourth place before kick-off. The visitors could move to the top of the table if they overturned the deficit and won by more than two goals.

The interruption came during a round of matches also featuring Angers against Troyes, Le Mans against Lorient, and Toulouse against Le Havre.

Angers led Troyes 1-0 at half-time, while Le Mans had the same advantage over Lorient. Toulouse and Le Havre were level without a goal when the interval arrived.
