Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the 10th consecutive game for club and country, but his goal could not prevent Bursaspor from losing 2-1 at home to Mardin 1969 Spor in the Turkish TFF 1. Lig on Sunday.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen says his side must combine discipline, resilience and aggressive pressing when they face Barcelona at RAMS Park on Tuesday.

The Turkish Super Lig champions are looking to respond after losing their opening match to Sporting Lisbon, but they face a Barcelona team known for controlling possession and creating sustained pressure.

Osimhen acknowledged the quality in Barcelona’s squad while insisting Galatasaray were capable of competing in what promises to be a demanding encounter.

The Nigeria international said Galatasaray would need to disrupt Barcelona high up the pitch and remain organised when they do not have the ball.

“When you’re playing against a team with such quality players, you have to play with both excitement and seriousness; you need to apply pressure in the front area,” Osimhen was quoted by byahaber as saying.

“They possess the ball a lot, so in a match like this, you need to show some resistance.”

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze was involved as AC Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo in Serie A at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Nigeria international made his sixth league appearance of the campaign and produced an energetic performance, using his pace and direct running to trouble the Sassuolo defence. Chukwueze has also recorded two assists so far this season as he continues to develop within AC Milan’s tactical system.

He remained on the pitch until the 85th minute, when he was replaced by Hutchinson as the visitors pressed for a late winner.

Defending champions Rangers stayed top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Barau FC on Sunday.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has warned his players they must produce their best football to deal with Victor Osimhen when they face Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.

The sides meet at RAMS Park on Tuesday in a Matchday Two fixture, with the Turkish champions expected to include Osimhen in their starting line-up.

The Nigeria striker returned from injury as a substitute in Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Kasimpasa on Friday. He had missed the club’s previous three matches before making his comeback.

Flick highlighted the threat posed by the former Napoli forward while also praising the strength of Galatasaray’s squad.

“Galatasaray have a fantastic striker like Osimhen. They really have a great squad. We need to be ready for this match. We have to play our best football against Galatasaray,” Flick was quoted by Ahaber as saying.

Lazio maintained their unbeaten start to the Serie A season with a 3-1 victory over 10-man Monza at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

Nigeria internationals Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro both featured, with Lazio midfielder Dele-Bashiru coming on in the 61st minute and Monza’s Akinsanmiro completing the full 90 minutes.

The result gave Maurizio Sarri’s side their fifth win in their opening six league matches, a start Lazio have achieved for the first time in their history. They moved level with Inter on 16 points at the top of the table.

Lazio needed only three minutes to take the lead. Nuno Tavares collected possession 25 yards from goal before sending a powerful effort into the top corner beyond Noel Tornqvist.

Monza appeared to have responded in the 20th minute when Gustavo Varela found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Lazio doubled their advantage three minutes later. Tavares turned provider this time, delivering an accurate cross into the area for Gustav Isaksen, who finished past Tornqvist.

The visitors’ hopes of recovering were dealt another blow 10 minutes before half-time when Lorenzo Lucchesi was shown a straight red card. He had brought down Tijjani Noslin while the Lazio forward was through on goal.

Despite being reduced to 10 players, Monza responded quickly after the interval. Just 45 seconds into the second half, Saba Goglichidze headed in from close range following a corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The Brianzoli then threatened to complete their fightback, with Samuele Birindelli and Varela both having opportunities to bring the scores level.

Terem Moffi celebrated making a decisive contribution as Hamburg came from behind to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in a dramatic away victory.

Hamburg were 2-1 down with only seven minutes remaining when the Nigerian striker equalised, before Miro Muheim scored deep into stoppage time to complete the turnaround for Merlin Polzin’s team.

Nigeria U-20 assistant coach Abdullahi Biffo has praised the standard of officiating in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), while urging league organisers to maintain their efforts to improve other important areas of the domestic game.

Biffo made the comments after watching Ikorodu City claim a 2-0 victory over Kwara United in their Matchday 8 fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. He said the quality of the match and the performance of the officials pointed to steady progress within the league.

The coach, who observed the game from the stands, commended both teams for their contribution to the contest and said the match officials had maintained a high and professional standard throughout the encounter.

“It is a gradual process of improvement in the league, and we are getting there slowly with time,” Biffo said.

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has given his former grassroots coach, Hyginus Okoye, a brand-new car to recognise his role in developing the Nigerian forward’s football career.

The Trabzonspor forward presented the vehicle to Okoye in Lagos, thanking the coach for helping to nurture his talent during his formative years at Young Stars FC in Satellite Town, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Onuachu began playing football at Young Stars FC before moving to FC Ebedie in Sagamu, Ogun State, where he continued his development.

Tolu Arokodare dedicated his goal for Ajax Amsterdam to injured team-mate Kasper Dolberg after scoring in Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen.

The Super Eagles player’s operation and complete rehabilitation programme were funded by Rivers United, with the total cost estimated at about ?14 million.

Ozoemena was not required to pay any medical expenses as he recovered from the injury, in a decision the Port Harcourt-based club said reflected its commitment to player welfare.

“This is part of the club’s wider player-first approach,” Rivers United said in a statement on Friday.

The club had publicly highlighted its “colossal commitment to player welfare” in March 2026, citing Ozoemena’s treatment as an example of its policy of taking full responsibility for players’ health and recovery.

His return continues a recent pattern of support for injured members of the squad. Right-back Ebuka Akobundu was previously helped back into action after missing 378 days with an abdominal injury.

“By removing the financial and medical burden, the club allows players to concentrate fully on their recovery and performance,” Rivers United said.

The fixture will be played at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Kun Khalifat’s adopted home ground, with both teams needing a result to ease pressure after difficult starts to the season.

Shooting Stars, also known as the Oluyole Warriors, sit 14th with eight points from seven matches. They have recorded two wins, two draws and three defeats, but all three of their losses have come away from home.

They opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos before suffering a 3-1 defeat by Plateau United, a 1-0 loss to Warri Wolves and a 4-2 defeat against Enyimba.

Their struggles on their travels have been compounded by two successive goalless draws at home against Nasarawa United and Kano Pillars. The results have increased scrutiny on technical adviser Salisu Yusuf, with some supporters calling for him to be dismissed.

After four seasons with Fenerbahce, Osayi-Samuel joined Birmingham City in the summer of 2025 on a three-year contract.

Blackburn Rovers and Nigeria defender Ryan Alebiosu has described the “depressing” period in his teenage years when unexplained pain in both knees kept him out of football for almost two years.

Alebiosu was about 15 when the condition left him unable to run or walk properly. Doctors could not identify the cause of the problem and were uncertain whether he would need surgery.

“They didn’t know what was going on. I couldn’t run. I couldn’t walk,” the 24-year-old told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Obviously, it was kind of depressing having about two years of not playing football because of this knee injury. This was when I was about 15 and went on for a couple of years. I couldn’t play.”

The right-back, who has made more than 50 appearances for Blackburn since joining the club in 2025, said the uncertainty was particularly difficult as he watched other young players continue to develop.

Alebiosu’s career has included spells with the academies and squads of Arsenal, Crewe Alexandra, Kilmarnock, Kortrijk and St. Mirren. He eventually established himself in Lancashire and went on to win his first cap for Nigeria.

The former Arsenal youngster said specialists described his condition as non-specific knee pain because they were unable to determine what was causing the discomfort in either leg.

“They didn’t know if I needed surgery or anything with it because I had pain in both of my knees and they didn’t know what was causing it. It was non-specific knee pain,” he said.

With no clear diagnosis or treatment plan, Alebiosu was left hoping the problem would resolve itself.

“I was always hoping for the best, to be honest. They didn’t know if I needed the surgery or anything, but at that point I was just hoping that it was nothing more serious and that it would just settle,” he added.

The prolonged absence came at a formative stage of his development and left him frustrated as his peers moved forward in the game.

“It was frustrating because I was a kid and everyone was progressing, and I’m just waiting to see when this is gonna go.”

Alebiosu has since fought his way back into professional football, with his progress at Blackburn helping him reach the international level with the Super Eagles.

Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Joshua Baba has returned to the club and rejoined his team-mates ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8 fixture against Sporting Lagos.

The former Enyimba goalkeeper was declared absent without official leave (AWOL) by Bendel Insurance after failing to report for duty when his approved recovery period ended.

Baba suffered an injury during Bendel Insurance’s Matchday 1 meeting with Warri Wolves at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The goalkeeper was subsequently given two weeks to recover before travelling to Plateau State to visit his family.

He did not return to Benin City within the timeframe set by the club, which led to Bendel Insurance issuing a statement declaring him AWOL.

The Benin-based side have now confirmed that Baba resurfaced in Lagos on Saturday night. He later joined his team-mates at the team hotel as the Benin Arsenal prepared for their league encounter with Sporting Lagos.

The club also thanked members of the media and other stakeholders for their involvement after its earlier announcement concerning Baba’s absence.
