Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has backed his countryman in Ademola Lookman to win the 2024 CAF African player of the year award following an historic, blistering season with Atalanta and also the Nigeria national team, Nigerisasoccernet.com reports.
Ekong disclosed this in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT, admitting that Lookman deserves the award for all that he was able to achieve last season.
“He’s on fire now and a lot of promise is coming through,” the Al-Kholood defender told talkSPORT. “This season he’s been something else and at AFCON he was amazing.
“I would say he’s arguably our best player and arguably the best player in Africa right now. On December 16 there will be the [African Player of the Year] ceremony and I’m sure he’s going to win it", he added.
Lookman has been in sensational form this season, scoring 11 goals in just 12 games. His impressive performances have propelled Atalanta to the top of the Serie A table, sparking speculation about a potential move to one of the world's biggest clubs.
