The 26-year-old goalkeeper has been named captain following his return to the club for a second spell, while experienced striker Kayode Oke has been appointed vice-captain.

Obasogie previously spent time away from Insurance, including a spell with Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars, before making his return to the Benin-based club.

His first stint with Bendel Insurance was particularly impressive, with the goalkeeper making 33 league appearances during the 2023/24 season.

His performances between the posts, coupled with his leadership qualities, earned him recognition at the national level and eventually led to his involvement with the Super Eagles.

Insurance have now placed further responsibility on the goalkeeper by making him the leader of the squad, with his familiarity with the club and experience at both domestic and international levels expected to prove valuable.

Kayode Oke will assist Obasogie in the leadership group after being named his deputy. The forward has established himself as a dependable attacking option for the Benin Arsenals.

The appointment comes as Bendel Insurance look to improve on their early results in the 2026/27 NPFL season.

The former Federation Cup champions have picked up one victory and suffered one defeat from their opening two league matches.

Under coach Kennedy Boboye, the club will hope the new leadership structure can bring greater stability and consistency as they target a stronger campaign.

With Obasogie and Oke now leading the squad, Insurance will be looking to build momentum and mount a serious challenge as the season progresses.
