Tolu Arokodare is determined to make the most of his latest opportunity with the Super Eagles as Nigeria begin their campaign for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Ajax striker has been rewarded for his impressive form in the Netherlands with a place in Eric Chelle’s 24-man squad for the opening qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Arokodare, who has been among Ajax’s standout attacking players this season, made his intentions clear when asked about his objectives with the national team.
“I hope I can help my country,” Arokodare stated.
The 25-year-old has made a strong start to the campaign, scoring six goals and providing two assists in nine appearances across all competitions for Ajax.
His latest goal came in the 2-2 draw against Excelsior, further extending his impressive run in front of goal ahead of his return to the Super Eagles.
Arokodare’s physical strength and finishing ability have also attracted attention from opposition coaches, with Excelsior head coach Ruben den Uil particularly impressed after facing the Nigerian forward.
“When you see this Ajax… Tolu, that’s almost fraud for the competition. He is so strong and so long… a cheat code,” Den Uil remarked.
“That is not normal. Even if you get a ten in the deck for the goal, then this man will still come above you.”
Arokodare will now turn his attention to international duty as Nigeria prepare to face Madagascar on September 25 before taking on Guinea-Bissau four days later.
With his confidence high following his excellent club form, the Ajax forward will be hoping to translate his goalscoring form to the international stage and help the three-time African champions secure their place at the 2027 AFCON.
